plazaPOPS is a high impact, low cost, and replicable demonstration of ‘pop-up’ community gathering places within the privately-owned public spaces (POPS) of Toronto’s emblematic and vibrant inner suburban strip malls.

Based on my Masters of Landscape Architecture thesis at the University of Guelph, plazaPOPS was one of five recipients of Park People’s Public Space Incubator Grant, funded by the Balsalm Foundation and Ken and Eti Greenberg, and is set to pop up in summer 2019 on Lawrence Avenue East, within the Wexford Heights BIA.

The project is a collaboration with Brendan Stewart, professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph and ERA Architects, Karen Landman, Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph, the Wexford Heights BIA, and Scarborough Arts.

Check out the guide I produced based on my thesis research that shows how a resident can initiate landscape enhancements for pedestrians at their local strip mall.
